Measure each room length and width, calculate square footage, and sum all rooms. Include hallways and closets. Typically, garages, unfinished basements, and porches are not included in living square footage.
Divide square feet by 43,560. A 10,000 sq ft lot = 0.23 acres. For square meters to square feet, multiply by 10.764. One acre equals about 0.4 hectares.
Calculate room square footage (length x width), then add 10% for waste and cuts. A 150 sq ft room needs about 165 sq ft of flooring. Add more (15-20%) for diagonal patterns or multiple rooms requiring transitions.
Multiply wall height by width. An 8-foot high, 12-foot wide wall = 96 square feet. For rooms, calculate perimeter x height, then subtract doors (about 20 sq ft each) and windows (about 15 sq ft each).
Use the formula: Area = pi x radius^2. For a circular area 10 feet in diameter (5-foot radius): 3.14159 x 5^2 = 78.5 square feet. Our calculator handles circular areas automatically.
